Family safari questions, answered
Is a safari safe for kids?
Yes, with the right lodge. Fenced camps, experienced guides and sensible routines make safaris very family-friendly. We only recommend lodges we would take our own family to, and we match the lodge to your children’s ages.
What age should kids be for a safari?
Any age, honestly. We have done it with a baby, toddler and children. The key is the lodge: some welcome all ages on game drives, others set minimums of 5, 6 or 12. Some offer activities and drive flexibility. Tell us your kids’ ages and we will shortlist accordingly.
What about malaria?
Greater Kruger is a low-risk malaria area, especially in the dry winter season, and there are excellent malaria-free alternatives like Madikwe. We will talk you through the options; your travel doctor has the final say on medication.
How long should a family safari be?
We recommend 4-7 nights, with a minimum of three nights per lodge. Enough time for great sightings without game-drive fatigue. Many families pair a safari with Cape Town or the beach for a longer holiday.
