Ultimate 8-night “Big 5” African Safari Itinerary
The perfect itinerary to tick African Safari off your bucket list! Fly into Johannesburg at what we believe to be the best time of the year, and head straight to a luxurious game lodge in Timbavati or Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve to be pampered, feast on amazingly delicious food (and lots of it), enjoy free drinks, relax and most importantly, explore the South African wilderness on open-vehicle safari drives! You will embark on two safari drives per day where your guide and tracker will reveal the magic of the African bush to you – getting you up close and personal to famous African wildlife like lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, hippos and more.
You might even be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife residents from the deck of your luxurious room, while lounging by the pool sipping on cocktails or even while soaking in your bath tub! After four nights of pampering and luxury, you will head out of the private game reserve and enter Kruger National Park, the epitome of the South African safari experience! Here you will enjoy less luxurious accommodation (at a much more affordable price), but it won’t matter because you’ll be spending most of your time out driving on Kruger’s roads searching for the Super 7 (lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, buffalo, rhino and elephants) and enjoying countless other species of mammals, birds and reptiles.
After your eight guided drives in the private game reserve you will turn into your own guide and experience the excitement of spotting your own lions, leopards and elephants – often walking straight towards your car (or beside it) on the road. There is nothing more exhilarating than driving with your windows down in Kruger while watching an elephant or lion walk straight past your car. Don’t worry – it is completely safe so long as you respect their right of way and stay in your car! Dine at Kruger’s restaurants or cook your own meals, and be sure to keep a look-out for resident honey badgers, African wild cats, monkeys and baboons who may try and raid your bins! After three amazing nights in Kruger, travel back to Johannesburg and overnight before flying out the next day full of memories you will never forget.
If you’re like most people you may find the African safari is no longer a ‘bucket list’ item, but a new regular holiday!
